Qfinsoft Engineers Excel

Posted 28 November 2008

In October earlier this year, two Qfinsoft engineers took an epic 11-hour plane journey into the unknown; Oxford, United Kingdom. Their mission; to compete in the ANSYS World Cup. The ANSYS World Cup is an event in which all ANSYS Channel Partners compete in to demonstrate their technical skills in ANSYS software. The result; Qfinsoft brought home two of the three prizes competing against more than twelve other channel partners; Marius Botha won the prize for “Best Technical Demonstration Skills” for his FEA demonstration and Danie de Kock won the prize for the “Most Creative Use of ANSYS technology” for his Fluid Structure Interaction demonstration, in both cases using ANSYS' intergrated Workbench environment. So next time you feel alone in a dark office with dirty CAD or diverging solutions, never fear as the fully ANSYS-Certified Qfinsoft support team is just a phone call or email away.

Qfinsoft is pleased to announce that we are now a channel partner for Flowmaster software. Qfinsoft will distribute and support the software as well as provide training in the use of the software. For more information about the training courses, see the Support page or click here.

Designed for analysts and design engineers, Flowmaster is CFD system simulation software that takes into account the complex internal flow and thermal effects within fluid systems.

A library of standard components and suite of generic building block components make it possible for engineers to quickly model and simulate, validate and optimise systems at the concept phase of development, before any 3D data is available.

Flowmaster enables expert users to capture their knowledge in the software allowing simulations to be performed safely in controlled conditions by a wider range of engineers, providing a higher quality of rapid system development.

Flowmaster has a number of products aimed at specific industries including, Flowmaster V7 General Systems, Flowmaster V7 Aerospace, Flowmaster V7 Gas Turbine, Flowmaster V7 Automotive. Visit the Flowmaster Solutions Tour which will guide you through some of the many features and benefits of Flowmaster V7. Take the solutions tour.

South African ANSYS User Conference 2008

Posted 30 July 2008

UGM Venue

On the 18th June 2008, Qfinsoft co-hosted the ANSYS User Conference at The Cradle of Humankind in Maropeng. The theme of this year's UGM was The Evolution of CAE and with this in mind, the world heritage site at the Cradle of Humankind in Maropeng turned out to be the perfect venue. The unusual venue, as well as interesting and high-standard presentations all contributed to another successful UGM. Qfinsoft would sincerely like to thank the presenters for their time and effort. The conference was well attended with a record number of over 110 delegates, including three visitors from ANSYS.

UGM Group During a longer than usual lunch break, participants had the opportunity of enjoying the Maropeng tour. To accommodate the diverse interests, the conference was divided after lunch into a Fluids Applications session and a Structural Applications session.

A business card draw at the end of the UGM sessions brought the UGM to an end on a lighter note and set the tone for the informal get-together with drinks and snacks at the Maropeng Hotel.

We thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you all again at the next UGM.

We are really looking forward to welcoming Marius as part of the team.

Other news is that after months of organising, things have finally fallen into place for Gerard Scheepers as he is set to leave us for the Qfinsoft Inc. team in Canada, where we will continue his work on Qfin and Qled. We will miss Gerard and wish him everything of the best in the Canada office with Prof. Jan Visser.

UGM 2007 – Irene Country Lodge

Posted 8 May 2007

UGM Delegates 2007 On the 14th March 2007, Qfinsoft once again hosted the ANSYS Fluent UGM in the beautiful and tranquil setting of the Irene Country Lodge. Good food, lovely surroundings and interesting and high-standard presentations all contributed to the success of this year’s UGM. 54 participants from all over the country took part in the UGM and some of these participants gave us a taste of their field of expertise through their fascinating presentations. Furthermore, Microsoft South Africa, represented by Albie Bester, entertained us with a presentation of Microsoft in High Performance Computing. The UGM culminated in a cocktail party in the Gazebo overlooking the dam. Musical entertainment was provided by our own Stephan, who it turns out is also a talented musician.

As is tradition, Qfinsoft and ANSYS Fluent presented a prize to the best CFD project by a final–year student in South Africa. This year’s price went to Johan Bezuidenhout from the University of Stellenbosch for his CFD modeling of a waste-heat boiler in the copper flash smelting process. Well done, Johan.

We look forward to seeing you all again at next year’s UGM!
